St Matthew's Church, Birches Head

St Matthew's Church welcomes you to our Sung Family Eucharist on a Sunday morning, in which different people take a full part. As well as a small choir, there are a Sacristan and a Server assisting in leading the worship. There is also a small Sunday School, which meets during the first part of the Sunday family service.

We would also like to invite you to join us at our community lunch (soup and sandwiches for £1.50) every Tuesday following the mid-week mass, starting at 11.45 am and ending around 1 pm.

St Matthew’s holds two fairs a year, a Harvest Supper and other social activities (Vicar’s Roasts and Coffee Mornings). St Matthew’s has a high reputation for the standard of its fairs and social events, in particular its dinners and buffets.

A non-affiliated Play Group make use of the meeting room and part of the main church for their meetings, 3 days each week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday)

Worship Times:

  • Sunday:    11am - Eucharist
  • Tuesday:   9am - Morning Prayer

                  10am - Mid-week mass

About the Church Building

The first church building on this site was a “tin church”, built in 1899 as a daughter church to Holy Trinity, Northwood. In 1961 a new church building was consecrated. St Matthew’s is a modern building, with a Nave and a Sanctuary with a Stone Altar. The building has a vestry, a choir vestry, a side chapel (Chapel of St Chad), a Meeting/Community Room, a Modern Kitchen and a Toilet.
