Welcome to Christ Church – a Christian community aiming to live a shared life of worship, prayer and service for and with the people of Cobridge.

The common life we share, which is open to all, is described by our Bishop as expressing a ‘hospitality of the heart’. We recognise the image of God in all those who come into contact with us and we seek to honour and affirm each who crosses our path. Our community vision is to build a diverse, varied and compassionate church where each person finds a special and valued place. We believe in the healing power of such a community and pray that  we will grow in love and depth and numbers under the direction of the Holy Spirit and that we will show more of the life of Jesus in our life together.

The foundations of our common life are our ‘gathering points’ – where people come together in fellowship, worship and social inter-action. The main regular ‘gathering points’ are:

Community Lunch Club – every Tuesday at 12 noon – sharing food and friendship for older folk

Tuesday Prayer & Study Group – 7.30pm each week – studying and praying together. Meets in the church

Thursday Communion – 10.00am each week – worshipping, learning and fellowship followed by refreshments

Christ Church Companions – friendship and community for our valued older folk – usually the second Monday of each month at 2pm

Songs of Praise at Camoys Court – a monthly service on the last Sunday of each month at 3pm at a local residential home

Music in Worship – a fortnightly meeting for deepening our worship on Fridays at 6pm for an hour and a half

Christ Church, Cobridge

About the Church Building

Designed by Lewis Vulliamy, the church was enlarged and beautified in 1845/6 and the Chancel extended in 1900. Christ Church was reordered in the 1970’s with a free standing Altar and extended Chancel. The Church was also carpeted and a meeting room provided under the Gallery. It was originally intended to accommodate 550 people. There are a number of interesting features, among them the original Victorian Gallery Clock, a Stringer Organ, a remarkable stained glass window in the East End depicting the Sermon on the Mount, two War Memorials, the Altar Rails and the Tablet at the back of the Church. The exterior tower clock, which belongs to the city, has recently been renovated thanks to the extreme generosity of a local pottery firm. Christ Church now has a Grade 2 Listing. In recent years the building has undergone significant renovation, both inside and outside and is now in good repair.
